School Uniforms
To promote the safety and well-being of all students at York School, the following dress code policy has been adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Hawthorne School District.
DRESS CODE/UNIFORMS: EC 35183 Authorizes a school to adopt a dress code policy that requires pupils to wear a school-wide uniform or prohibits pupils from wearing gang-related apparel.
Requires a school to provide six months’ prior notice to parents or guardians before implementing a policy that requires pupils to wear a school-wide uniform. Policy to address the availability of resources to assist economically disadvantaged pupils and to provide that no pupil will be penalized academically or otherwise discriminated against nor denied attendance to school if the pupil’s parents chose not to have the pupil comply with the uniform policy.
All elementary and middle schools, as well as Hawthorne Mathematics and Science Academy, have adopted a mandatory school uniform policy for all students. Specific information about the Uniform Policy requirements and regulations can be obtained at the appropriate school office. Students are expected to follow the school uniform policy on a daily basis.
A waiver to exempt a child from wearing the school uniform at elementary and middle schools may be obtained during a conference with the school principal or designee. Students exempted from the school uniform policy are expected to following the Dress and Grooming standards outlined below.
